Although it rated highly in the UK, this swashbuckling attempt to regenerate the show couldnÂ’t quite persuade the American commissioners to bring TVÂ’s greatest hero back to our screens for further adventures. The ingredients are all there: a regeneration, the return of the Master and a new-look Tardis. A brave attempt to breathe life into the show, it is a tantalising suggestion of what might have been. McGannÂ’s eighth Doctor remains a beloved part of the canon with allied adventures on audio, in print, graphic novels and the other spin-offs that pepper the Whoniverse.
